October round up

Happy Halloween everyone! :) Work has been mad hectic... so much so I'm sacrificing sleep to blog, heh. Here is the really, really long ass post that was promised earlier in the month.
Starting off; we (Chris, Cina, Yen, Yees, Emma and I) went to Korea! :D Since it's been yonks, I've already forgotten the names of most of the places we went to.

Taking off!
We landed in Seoul and took off for Insadong where we met up with Yees and Emma:

Because lunch was a whole mouthful of bad, we started snacking in the airport while waiting for our flight at Jeju Island. We love cake.

Once we got there, we got onto the bus which had the most ghetto looking, retro stylin' interior. They use green and pink neon lights for lighting at night. No joke.

We went to see some dragon head shaped rocks...

while Yees worked the camera...

... and found this amazing seaside place to eat, right on the rocks :p The locals had set up a sashimi stall behind a cluster of rocks--raw octopus and abalone with shoju! YUM :D

We had to climb some mountain in Jeju on day two :p

The view from the top was spectacular! There were heaps of people coming up by the time we got down o.O And some of us had shaky knees from walking downhill :p

After the massive climb, we went to check out a folk village... and no, it's not the ones that were preserved just for tourists; there are people who actually live in them. Very old school.

We had lunch (at least, I think this is what we had for lunch):

After lunch we went over to chill out by a waterfall and cam whored even more:

Then we headed off to another place with more rocks. Fun, right? But the highlight of this part was the silkworms! Just incase you're wondering: no, I didn't finish it (ech!) and crunchy, creamy texture with a bitter aftertaste ;)

We also braved the rain to visit a root garden without umbrellas lol

Day three was "Everland" day. The morning kicked off with abalone juk and then a obligatory group shot by the windy coastline:

If you're wondering what Cina was doing with the hand gesture... it's the T-Express pose (keep reading :p). We said goodbye to Jeju Island and headed off to Everland, the land of candy, coasters and crack.

And this is the T-Express:

With the first drop at a whopping 77 degree decline, waiting in line for it was terrifying. Dr. Emma was about to backpedal if not for Cina blocking the way.

77 degree drop kids, it's like being hurled off a wall, no joke. From far, the drop looked like cake... two seconds of thrills and chills, nothing we couldn't handle yeah? So wrong. Oh, so wrong. Turns out the two seconds felt like TWO YEARS of free falling... heck, Dr. Emma started screaming even before the drop T_T That ride was not fun :p But we sat it for the sake of saying "Yeah, the T-Express? Been there, done that."

Emma and I braved a few more rides that tossed us around in the air like they were flipping pancakes. The attendants were doing the macarena and talking in high-pitched "YOOHOOO"s every five seconds. What do they put in the water!?

We also got ears for -almost- everyone :)

We had more grilled stuff for dinner. For the record, I don't recall what it was I was doing when that shot was taken.

The next day, we went to see yet another mountain (for the view, naturally). Emma hiked all the way to the peak despite the tour guide specifically telling just us to not hike to the top. Yes, we were the rebel group in the tour :p

The skies were amazing that morning:

Does anyone see that "No smoking" sign there!? Seriously :p
After our relaxing morning walk, we went to the fish market and had lunch in the makeshift shops that were really just the shop keep's boat lol

Yes, more food (it's a gastronomical adventure :p)! Sashimi of sorts:

We went to Nami Island; serene and romantic despite possibly being visited by every other teen couple in South Korea. And yes, this is where they filmed Winter Sonata. They even have bronze statues of the two main actors, heh.

The next day, we went to visit the ever popular Dae Jang-Geum movie set and had some fun there:

Carrying Yees around ain't no easy task!

She volunteered, I swear!

I think we got hauled off to the Ginseng place after this... and naturally, had ginseng chicken for dinner (or was it lunch, hmm)

We headed back to our chic little pad in Seoul where I proceeded to plug in my mac and sat there until my withdrawal symptoms went away. Also, I managed to catch the infamous Starcraft gaming channel :D

We went to roam the streets of Seoul...

There were streets and streets of neon lights, vibrant buzzing and the somewhat usual techno/hip hop coming out of random bars. The people here don't seem to sleep :p
On the last day of the trip with our tour group, we went to learn how to make kimchii. Well, being a tour and all... they don't actually expect us to "make" anything. So, it was really just 15 minutes of us rubbing soggy cabbage down with pre-made chili paste.

Being touristy, we took pictures at this square that had a fountain built smack in the middle of it especially for the view (see that sexy mountain behind and how the fountain sits a little of right? Yeeeah.).

We made our way over to the Folk Museum and then proceeded to get lost in a massive (previously somewhat restored) palace:

We even had time to play some court games!

No, I don't remember the name of the arrow game... but Emma schooled us all lol
Now that touring was more or less done, it was time to shop! We were dropped off at Myeong Dong (I think! :p) and Yen tore into TheFaceShop and Laniege... and proceeded to buy almost everything :p Emma came in a close second with a truckload of everything else.

With Emma and Yees off to Japan the next day, Chris, Cina, Yen and I went for our own adventure... starting at Lotte Mart. We had to try their Bulgogi burger in the Lotteria:

Wasn't the greatest, but hey :p We also went shopping... for instant noodles. Now this may be silly, but the obnoxiously CHEAP thrill of buying instant noodles/candy/snacks in a foreign country completely overrode any logic :p

LOL @ Yen's "Oh my god, are you kidding me..." expression in the background
After that, we went over to Dongdaemun (it's either Dongdaemun or Namdaemun -_-) to do more shopping and at the same, Cina wanted to check out the baseball stadium. We looked for it and wondered if the directions were wrong... and this was our reaction when we realized they had PAVED the stadium down to make way for more shopping complexes. We had actually walked around what was previously the baseball stadium wondering if it had sank into the ground...

We also went to check out the man made river that was a darling spot to chill out away from the hustle and bustle in the streets above. Yes, above. The river (with smoothly paved walkways on both sides) runs underneath the main roads.

Our last dinner in Korea was by far the most delicious :)

We headed over to the DMZ the next day and explored the third tunnel. Going down was awesome... but coming back up was a massive chore. I'm not exactly the most fit person on earth so the 320ish meters at a 11 degree incline almost made my heart explode! :p Sorry, no pictures were allowed! :p
Whew, that was our South Korea in a nutshell (more or less).
October was a month of birthdays (amazing shots ninja-ed from Lola and Yen) starting off with Kyeth's at Euphoria, MOS :)

We're sipping on lychee martinis in the Sunway Lagoon Resort's lobby while waiting for the birthday girl to arrive!

Kyeth got a pole cake:

And we all love the cake :D

Kyeth and Sherlyn, the other birthday girl!

Vee and Lola

Aaaah!
Happy birthday Awesome! ;p

It was also Fiona's birthday and we had a pseudo surprise party (she saw it coming from a mile away :p) at Palete Pallete:

And did I already mention how much we all love cakes?

Fi handing out her cupcake cake :D

Adam munching on the icing
Lola made Fi chug it! And this was after the flaming too :p

And to end my amazingly long post, here are some random "Pole Out" pictures:

Hanging with Kyeth at Zanzibar; yes we came prepared!

The boys playing it cool at Zanzibar!

Raw @ Solaris. Pole family getting drunk and dance-y ;p

I do this every year, so I figured why break tradition? :)
I kicked off year 25 with an excitingly anticipated conference call with the lovely Sara, whom I finally got to speak to after years of working with and Kevin! :D
And in no particular order, here's a recap of the fun, glamorous and obnoxiously horrific things of how "24" went:
Pole dancing lessons--and all the wonderful ladies at pole class :D
Pole dancing--on a stage with my awesome partner Misty in a club in front of a large audience... with really only (mom and dad, please turn away and not continue reading this line) a corset and those sexy pinstripe undies with red ribbons on the side.
Discovering Cyberjaya--I swear if I never got the job working at RSB, until today, I still wouldn't know how to get to that god forsaken place.
Team RSB--Rails Rumble, lots of Ruby on Rails, fun with CSS, a few Facebook applications and more geeky shit :) Oh... and AGILE... and converting from Dreamweaver (I only use split screen view! :p) to TextMate.
Team RSB--oh, the fights! Going to war and defending your shit. Thank you :)
Took public transportation to KL at eight in the bloody morning. Don't even ask.
Got a Macbook that traveled with me all the way to Chi-town! :D
Chicago--graciously hosted by Diana, Andrew, Jaime and Owen smack in the middle of winter <3 Much apologies to the guys shoes' which I puked on at the dueling piano bar after my orgy of drinks, heh. And Super Bowl!
Vegetarian food--like, seriously. In all my past 23 years combined, I've never had as much vegetarian food as I did working in Cyberjaya for those few months :p Every thing's a mushroom. Or bean.
Advertising at Proximity--I architect information, hah ;p And boy do I still hate Flash :p Admittedly, we have shit for internet but at least we get free beer and truckloads of processed sugar :D
My fuck-me-red iPod died. DIED.
Gave the second chance thingie a second try. Didn't work out too hot.
Swung around an obstacle course four stories up in the air with the crazy kids at Standard Charted. Oh, the drinking games. Much love! :)
Doing stupid shit on the webcam.
Mage went frost... and priest snagged the 2000 rating with Cibo (and a little help from sassy Higgins hehe).
Rediscovering what it means to have an "actual job" and how it cuts down dramatically on your social life.
Revisiting my teenager years of indulging my currently not-so-secret any longer teeny boppy girly crush fantasies.
Bumped into unpleasant clients (thankfully only two!)--the worst of the two being a misogynistic a-hole (pretty much self explanatory).
Whored my liver out to Turborg just so I could get to the KL Music Festival '08.
Salsa classes--just started! ;p
Streaked my hair red and adopted green contact lenses in the name of vanity.
Bumping into people with subzero PR skills. Yes, again, God kills a lolcat every time I have to tolerate this.
Two of my friends are engaged! :D
Obsessing over a track from the Ministry of Sound radio for ages without knowing the title (simply because it's so obscure I couldn't find it)--only to find it on someone's playlist on the first day at Proximity (thanks Yee Ee :D)! I have the track but sadly, I still don't know what it's called.
And that's that; I'm still high on my fever and both my brain and fingers have rebelled and stopped working... although, I'm not sure if I should include HTML5 to that list :x
Pictures will come tomorrow! :) Happy Birthday to all the other July babies out there! :D

Binging for Sunburst
Monday, March 03, 2008
Goodbye February, hello March!
And here are the yummy pictures from last month to yesterday night where we had day two of the Turborg binge in our continuous effort to make our way to the Sunburt KL International Music festival... with loads of "free" beer.
We learnt our lesson the first time: NOTHING is open in KL if you go too early *cough* so "breakfast" was actually lunch at about 12ish at JW Marriott. Yees you lied! Where were the superlicious egg tarts? When Dom asked if they had any, the server looked at him like he grew a third eye... and replied back caustically as if the peasant dish of an egg tart was not to be spoken off in such place of obscenely overpriced resplendence.

Breakfast at Shanghai Restaurant, JW Marriott

Dom; dim sum is serious business ;p
Of course we had to try this:

Fish spa at The Pavilion!

Hanging out with the fishes--multiple feet on showcase
First 15 minutes was all laughter and squealing (from Dom as well)... so much so the woman next to me thought I was high from getting my toes sucked on by the school of fishes. This is an absurd lie considering I can't stand getting my toes sucked on -_- Just take my word for it, k?

MY dirty feet

Feeding the fishies up close and personal

Dom getting tickled pink by all the fishes sucking between his toes :p
And for dinner, we went off to celebrate (albeit belated) Joo turning 25!

Pau, Mei and Joo: happy 25th Joo! :D

Leng, Terry and Cina... if you're wondering, yes, we are at Umai-ya! again :x

Mei and Joo

Group shot!
Day ONE of our amazing beer binge... started with them being FOURTY bloody FIVE minutes fashionably late. And I'm left to camwhore with the huge ass mirror panels (which will come in handy later) while I wait:

Camwhoring--checking out the angles!
The finally make it...

Cina and her beer

Phaiky and Cina--I spy with my eye...

Toasting with Phaiky!

Chris

Cina being possessive with her beer
Yoong and Mei joins the fun and this is what semi-tipsy people do with huge mirror panels:

We downed it all... and came back for day TWO:

Pau is recruited to drink, drink, drink!

Chris and her new haircut

Alas, we didn't finish the 16 bottles last night and ended up taking home about... seven? They're all nice and cozy sitting in Chris' fridge as this post is going out. Nevertheless, supply won't be running low anytime soon... we're going back this Saturday ^^;

I gave up on the Youth Malaysia JScript... I'd have to re-write my CSS to accomodate their "bare" styling so that the dog ear doesn't look like an unwanted reject of a pixelated gif from 1997. What, you think I'm going to keep restyling my img tag for every id I make? Hell, no.
Onto the fun stuff--another session of picture whoring! I still need to nab pictures from Chris... although, I think they're all living in cold fear of unwanted pictures ending up on Facebook; case and point YEES who's really not selective at all with the pictures she put up :P.
Pictures are from the Christmas-y break we had: from overdosing on ribs at our first work "party", excessive estrogen at the Korean BBQ place, getting Yen pissed drunk (remake of 2 Fast 2 Furious on the LDP in attempt to get the nearest gas station) to caroling at DK Cafe <3 and bouncing shiruken-shaped carrots off the walls at Ninja Jones!

Only because I promised pictures for the longest time now!
Also, because I only have excellent selective memory, most of these are probably not in order at all. Pictures taken some time in the last two weeks of July 07 from Ms. Read all the way to Perhentian and right back at 7ate9 :)
p/s: For manually powered slideshow-esque effects, just click on the picture that pops up to move onto the next one ^^;

Happy Belated Birthday Pau! <3
The original plan was to have dinner at Alexis and then hop over to Skybar. HOWEVER, it took us TWO freaking hours to get to Alexis... without Pau >.< We decided to go back to KLCC instead to save Larry from actually having to crawl through Jalan Ampang neck deep in traffic.
Yup, not going down to KL on a Friday night -ever-. Such a nightmare -_- It's nine at night! WHERE ARE ALL THESE PEOPLE FROM?!
We eventually made it to Skybar (Ed! Club 1500ms meeting, chop chop)... in a state of near hyperglycemic coma from dessert's sugar crisis.
This is really going to be a picture whoring post (god knows we take pictures every time we go over to Skybar... so paiseh -_-) and I'm not feeling particularly intelligent today... for the record, the entrance/area pictures were really for Ed since he's a nub and wanted to see what Skybar looks like.
Waiting for a table was actually a pain because the 33rd floor apparently had NO ventilation...

Pau and Larry; the royal couple.

Cina and Joo; evidently it has been a long day.
Because we had so much time, Mei decided to untie and retie the tie/sash on my skirt... I know, people coming out of the elevators were wondering what on earth we were doing too.

Sean and Mei; err...
A few long, humid minutes later... we were ushered in. Well, into Skybar's waiting room -_- Even though the slow simmer of a temperature didn't improve, at least we had sofas to sit on?

Skybar entrance.

Skybar doorway.

Skybar pool.

Skybar - left side.

Skybar - right side. We made Pau trapeze across the platform by the edge of the pool in her drunken state :p

Waiting area.

Still waiting.
Although you can't actually tell, it's actually extremely warm to the point of sticky discomfort -_-

Obligatory group picture.

I think mine is more yellow than yours... >.< The apple martini wasn't great -_-

Finally, the bartender came over to set up Pau's drink. She actually drank it all before the flames dissipated... UNLIKE MEI (two months ago) who just stood there, watched the flames disappear before cautiously sticking her straw into the glass :p

Happy effects kicking in ^^;

The deal with the Ferris Wheel

Disclaimer: This post is a feel good, picture whoring post that is two days late.
I say goodbye to my old camera:

Broken :(
And say hello to the new IXUS 800 IS! :)
Happy early birthday to June Leng...

Birthday girl.
and Tzern!

Birthday boy.
We celebrated at Just Thai... and there is no way we're going back because the food portions are the exact nano sized replica of the images they have of it on the menu, prices are obnoxiously unreasonable and a roach skittered across our table just as we finished dinner. Long live third world countries.
Ahem. We have more people!

Those who came on time.

Those who came fashionably late.

Cina eventually joined us.

And so did Terry.
June Leng got an eye for her birthday. Yes, an eye. It's green too.

THE eye.
And this is what the gents did with it:

Tzern, Terry and the eye. Terry is going to kill me.
Of course, which dinner is complete without a group picture!

Smile!
After our rather disappointing dinner, we decided to head to...

Fun park.
a fun park that was just right next door. It's actually called the "Euro Fun Park"... but I really don't see anything "euro" about it. We also decided to take a tourist-y picture with the bling entrance sign that actually looks like it might just explode any minute now.

Fun park entrance. We're tourists.
We hopped on our first ride, the Sky Rider:

Sky Rider.

Strapped in, legs ahoy!
It was so much fun! Except, I thought my legs were going to collide with the sign board as I spun round and round, flying through the flashy lights :)
After that was done with, we meandered over to the game booths. Attractive prizes include bootleg Nemo plushies, Shin Chan plushies and uh, well... other bootleg/plushie stuff.

Chris and Nemo.

Some catch-the-duckie game. I am not sticking my hand in that water.
I was very fascinated with one of the prizes:

Oh-so-cute bootleg froggie plushies!
WTB boyfriend to win a froggie for me ;)

Joo, Mei and Sean.
Not finding anything we really wanted to try, our next (and last ride) was the Euro Wheel. Whoever came up with that name has to be shot in the foot a couple of times.

Euro Wheel.
It cost 3 tokens for the ride (priced at RM2/token). Not too bad for a couple of rounds, eh? We parked our asses in the carts:

Tzern and June Leng.

Sean and Cina.

Chris, Mei and Joo.
Chris was scared shitless... of course, it didn't help matters the ride was stopped momentarily as their cart was suspended at the pinnacle of the wheel. Here's another shot of the three of them, with us (especially Cina) taunting Chris to stand up:

Chris, Mei and Joo represent!
Here's a sexy view from the top:

Flying high.
For a Ferris wheel, it was actually turning pretty fast (borderline dizzy) and we thought the ride would last at most 6 rounds. It turns out, the ride is 15, yes FIFTEEN, rounds long. If you think you've got your money's worth (cheaper by the round, el oh el), think again. We got pissed bored thinking the ride operator fell asleep:

Getting looney after round, uh... 10?
Well, best RM6 we ever spent :P
And with that, we called it a night and said bye to Euro Fun Park.

Bye bye fun park!
On a side note, Portuguese egg tarts are so good :)

Portuguese egg tart.

Twenty-three! :)
Not really, mom mentioned I was born sometime in the evening.
Did I mention that CSS Opacity inherits (on a related note, EFFYOU inherits, DIAF) are almost as fun to meddle with as juggling semi-solid stinky balls of dung? No? Well, now you know.
Another year, another flower of bitterness :p
That is all.

It's another sunrise I will never wake up to and one more sunset I'll see while stuck in the LDP traffic jam before I magnanimously face a new age cycle. Exciting, isn't it?
Turning 23 isn't as exciting as it was turning 18 or 21... but it's all in the mind, really; what was once a procession of musical magic and effervescent fireworks has become the imaginary tinkle that accompanies the clock which makes a rotten, breaking creak of a tick every once a year.
What did I do as a 22 year old?
Come to think of it, anything past 21 feels like flat, chunky, overcooked creme brulée (or room temperature char kuay teow for the uninspired).
Some would scoff and say that turning 23 is nothing, nothing at all. Just another year that whizzes by until you hit the big THREE ZERO. God forbid I'd still be lamenting like I currently am when I hit 30. Heck, the only thing I want to be complaining about when I hit 30 would be random bits of fluff like... my relatives not staying off my ass because they're prying for a niece, nephew or two (how much more Asian can you get)? Only because I'm too busy galivanting around doing something else with my life. Yes, I have such extravagant hopes.
But I digress. What did I do as a 22 year old?
I met Mo. LOL. <3 Good times ^^; I got addicted to WoW. Although, I still think I never really got past the whole addiction thing. I mean, if I don't have it, I'll live... but if you thrust an activated account under my nose, I'm all over it like a dying swimmer on a life raft.
I met a fantastic bunch of people online (you non-believers have to just suck it up and skip the next two paragraphs if need be). Much, much love to Christy and Mark for keeping me sane through most of my e-drama period. And just incase people are going to start pelting dirty soap at me for skipping their names, I'm just going to give a big hug and much love to (not in any specific order!): Randi, Josh, Scott, Alex, Nico, Nate and Geneen (hope your baby is okay!), Dave, Dabby and everyone else in ex-Prophecy on Illidan. I am such a nerd, it's unbelievable.
On a side note, not everything is a field of rainbows and an unlimited supply of strawberry cotton candy flosses. I know, I know. It's the internet. But I'd just like to point out I also the met the biggest (and I mean HUGE) Dr.-Jekyll-and-Mr.-Hyde ego persona ever, Calis. He could be your best friend (and then some) but could also at a blink of an eye and a shatter of an ego, morph into the biggest bridge-burning-asswipe known to the solar system.
I'd suppose in retort he'd call me the vile, deceitful (insert colorful expletives here) Asian bitch, eh?
But ah, memories. It's always nice to have a flicker of those that mattered the most while in its time and place.
Moving along. Well, speaking of moving, I came home.
After four long years, I -finally- made my way home to Malaysia. Besides the weather, hellish traffic coordination and the fact that people don't smile enough here (we all can't be loonies now can we?) I suppose I didn't have a hard time adjusting back.
Oh yes, I became a pseudo interior designer and power drill waving D.I.Y. fanatic. It was a rather powerful and manly sensation, waving that power drill about. And I have to say, I'm damn good with the drill ;) Don't ask for room pictures, I'm working on it :P
And finally, who could forget: I started this blog. For my fantastic, dedicated readership of five ;)
Is there anything I regret this past year? Could do with less drama and stress factors but other than that, I don't regret a single thing. I wouldn't be this little sarcastic, potty mouthed, Asian feline from hell if I did :)
And did I mention? I fell in love this year.
But it happens every year... over and over again, with my mago :)

nico day 3: touring with the tourist
Sunday, May 14, 2006
(post was written for may 12th but i fell asleep writing this halfway at 2:45am -_-)
it's no big secret that i'm pretty lost in kl :p
i.e. i'm your worst case scenario when desperately looking for a breathing, talking entity to be a tour guide xD
so i finally did what i should've done 2 days ago: book a kl city tour with the hotel for both nico and i :p
yes, it was a learning experience for both of us ;p
we left the hotel around 9:15am (huzzah! i was early today :P) with the tour guide and the cutest and sweetest austrian couple (arthur and sandra) who were in their mid-30s lol ^^;
to keep this nice and simple since some people think i drone on too long, here's a list of places we visited: istana negara (royal palace), tugu negara (mausoleum), national mosque, dataran merdeka (independence square), petronas twin towers and kl tower ^^;
ok, we drove by a few other places like the bird park... and uhm, can't recall...
ANYWAY, no pictures this round (again) because there's none with nico in them.
he's such a dork :P
so after all that, i brought nico back to pj to have lunch with my dad ^^;
i swear to god, nico's going to think that malaysian people are narcoleptic because i keep passing out in the afternoon in the midst of talking to him. it's not that he's boring or anything, just that all the touring/walking somehow deviates from my usual daily *cough*LAZY*cough* lifestyle :p by the time i open my eyes, i'm already panicking and asking for the time :P
today was different, i had real reason to panic because we were supposed to meet up with the rest of the havoc bunch for dinner :P that and my ongoing battle to not be tardy :p
nico and i made it with 3 minutes to spare rawr! lol xD
we had dinner at shogun to celebrate mei's "old fart" status! kidding lol xD
happy birthday mei!! :D
i think i overdid the salmon sashimi just as vic overdid it with the 15 konnyaku jellies. ROAR ;D
champion lol :D
oh yeah, lightly baked oysters with a layer of tantalizing, melted cheese over them are SO GOOD <3
almost as good as the completely raw ones with lemon and hot sauce ;D orgasmic even ;x which i'm sure pau and joo will agree with! :D hehe
as scary as this is going to sound (it's pretty normal for us malaysians though :p), we went to telawi street bistro in bangsar after dinner to grab some drinks before calling it a night lol
yes, nico's going to be thoroughly afraid of food and drinks once his trip is over :x
although, it was a little irritating listening to funk techno beats rip through the speakers as we were all trying to have a conversation. volume wise, it wasn't ear-splittingly loud but it wasn't elevator music either O.o bistro my ass :p
too bad we didn't go club though :/
oh well, poppy this coming friday, woot :D
